Unfamiliar with the equipment called a "fishing rod", but it might be useful somehow. Try using the fishing rod and see what happens.

Synopsis
The Great Desert is a barren stretch of land covered in sand and dust that was created when the Colony Extinction occurred. However, there is an oasis that provides a stark contrast to the surrounding environment in the middle of this desert.
A shabby hut stands at the Oasis, belonging to a fisherman. EVE found it strange that there was someone in the middle of such a dangerous place and proceeded to investigate him. However, the man did nothing but silently give her a fishing rod. 
Clyde, the fisherman, only began to tell his story once EVE managed to catch a fish.
He was a man who wandered the world with a fishing rod, having fallen into despair after the Colony Extinction. This oasis was where his journey ended. In what seemed like the only beautiful place left in this ruined world, he has been continuously casting his fishing rod while contemplating about the true intentions of 
Mother Sphere.
Clyde, bidding EVE farewell, tells her to come back if she wants to try fishing again.

Speak to Clyde at the fishing hamlet in the oasis to begin the quest 
Looking Glass. This will open up a series of fishing quests.
