The Dig

Description

The Dig, an underground labyrinth, is part of Bobbi No-Nose’s ambitious project during The Big Dig in 2287. Initially purported to lead to Mayor McDonough’s office in Diamond City, the tunnels actually extend to the NH&M Freight Depot, owned by John Hancock.

Layout

This network of dirt tunnels and buried subway sections contains fragile walls that, when activated, prompt a temporary companion to clear a path. The journey involves navigating feral ghoul and mirelurk-infested areas. Options arise between paths, leading to a brewing facility and a strongroom.

Notable Loot

• Fusion Cores: Found in generators, one in the initial room and another behind an Expert-locked security gate along the western route to the brewery.
• Partial Set of Leveled Power Armor: Concealed behind a fragile wall in the first room.
• Overdue Book: Located in a train on the first subway platform.
• Nuka-Cola Quantums: Obtainable from a crate above a junction along the path to the brewery.

Trivia

• Designed by Justin Schram, who aimed for subtle environmental cues to guide players through rubble and lighting.
• Originally envisioned with a more interactive, “Minecraft-y” layout, the dungeon’s development concluded with Schram satisfied with its outcome.
