Like a lot of Souls-like games, you won’t be able to just equip whatever you want, whenever you want. Code Vein II does things a little differently, where when you equip various pieces of equipment, it will contribute to the Burden System. Your attributes are determined by the Blood Code you have equipped, with them affecting all six of your attributes. If you look at your stats screen, you will see bars underneath the stats, which is your Burden from equipped items. If the Burden is exceeds the value of the attribute, then you will become Overburdened.

Being Overburdened isn’t always a bad thing, as there are benefits that apply to your character from doing so. However, you also have penalties applied to your character and they grow progressively worse the higher the burden in a particular attribute is. Yes, each attribute will have its own set of benefits and penalties, which this page will go over.

The bars underneath your stats represent if you are Overburdened or not.

Strength

If you get Overburden in Strength, then the benefit will be that it increases the power of your close-range attacks. For the penalty, additional stamina is consumed whenever one of your attacks misses. The higher the penalty level, the more stamina is consumed.

Dexterity

For Dexterity, the benefit for Overburden is that you’ll absorb more ichor from draining. Similar to that, the penalty will be that getting hit will cause your ichor to decrease, with more being drained the higher your penalty level.

Mind

Your maximum ichor will be increased as a benefit from Overburden in Mind. The Penalty is a big one for this, though, as during combat, you will suffer constant LP/HP damage whenever you don’t have a buff originating from a forma on you. The higher your penalty level, the more buffs are required to prevent the damage. You can tell if a buff is from a forma by checking the border of the icon.

Willpower

The Overburden benefit for Willpower is that your attack power for formae will be increased. For the penalty, your attack power will temporarily decrease whenever a forma fails to activate because of insufficient ichor. The higher your penalty level, the longer the decrease in attack power lasts.

Vitality

If you get Overburdened in Vitality, the benefit will be that the amount recovered by regeneration will be increased. The penalty is whenever your LP falls below a set value, your mobility is reduced. The higher the penalty level, the higher the LP threshold value is.

Fortitude

The last attribute on here is Fortitude, and the Overburden benefit is that you’ll recover stamina when you avoid an enemy’s attack via the invincibility from evading. For the penalty, when your stamina is depleted, you suffer the Inhibit status ailment. This ailment prevents you from using formae and your motorcycle. The higher the penalty level, the longer the ailment will last.
