I am returned to my chambers alone, quill in hand. These words I set to parchment, yet even as I write, I scarcely believe them. The candle before me gutters, its light dim as my hope. For what has come to pass is beyond reason’s grasp.
It is gone.
Vanished.
The Eminus Shroud, grander than any citadel, vaster than any fortress wrought by mortal hands, has vanished into the void. I laugh as I inscribe these words, though there is no mirth in me, for how may such a thing be true? How might a construct of stone and steel, greater than kings have ever dared dream, simply be missing?
Worse still, our instruments speak of an unfathomable horror. Faram’s Lymbic Tone Desyncopators measure the Sphere’s propagation still. They mark its growth, its endless unfurling! How may this be, when the Shroud is no more? How may this be, when our hands grasp at naught but empty air where it once stood?
Yesterday, Hoz did utter the most cursed words my ears have ever suffered to hear. I have not spoken to him since. He dares believe that the Sphere itself had devoured the Shroud whole! Madness!
He must put down his mead, that one. And yet, even as I scorn his words, a shadow coils within my mind. What if he is right?
