As dusk fell, the towering statues soon gave way to ever more horrifying sights. All along the riverbanks, piercing through the fog, are arrayed countless pikes and other standing apparatus. The lot adorned with human corpses and body parts. Some yet move, uttering a muted chorus of tortured wails. A gruesome display of utter barbarism.

Is this a warning to outsiders? What awaits me beyond? What dreadful mire do I sail into? We should arrive at sunrise, on the morrow. Only duty compels me forward now, for every fiber of my being urges me to revert our course. I shan’t be surprised if sleep eludes me this night.
